Music 音樂
Music is sound that people have shaped. This series starts with a single vibrating string and climbs, one question at a time, to scales, instruments, and the music of many places.
音樂是人把聲音一點一點塑造出來的東西。這個系列從一根振動的弦講起,一次回答一個問題,一路講到音階、樂器,以及各地的音樂。
Every lesson has a model you can touch and a sound you can make yourself. All of the sounds are made by your browser, one tone at a time, so there are no recordings and nothing to download.
每一課都有可以動手的模型,和你自己能發出的聲音。所有的聲音都由瀏覽器一個音一個音合成,沒有任何錄音,也不需要下載。
Music words come from many languages. Where a term comes from Italian, you will see the Italian word beside the English and Chinese. Please start with the volume low: the series starts quiet and you can turn it up.
音樂的詞彙來自很多種語言。有義大利文來源的術語,會把義大利文和英文、中文並列。請先把音量調小:系列的聲音一開始很小聲,你可以再慢慢調大。
15 of 21 lessons are ready so far; more are on the way.
目前完成 15 課(共規劃 21 課),持續增加中。

Why Are Some Notes High and Some Low?
為什麼有的音高、有的音低?Slide the bridge of a one-string instrument and watch the string shake faster or slower while you hear the note change. Find out why half a string sounds exactly one octave higher.推動單弦琴的琴橋,看弦振動變快、變慢,同時聽音高改變。再看看為什麼弦短一半,音剛好高一個八度。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →Why Does a Piano Sound Different from a Violin?
同一個音,鋼琴和小提琴為什麼聽起來不一樣?Pluck a string in the middle or near the end and watch it shake in many ways at once. Then mix the harmonics yourself and hear how the same note changes its color.在弦的中間或靠近一端撥一下,看它同時用很多種方式振動。再自己混合諧波,聽同一個音怎麼換了顏色。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →What Is a Beat?
拍子是什麼?Start a pendulum metronome, change its speed, and count the strong and weak beats in twos, threes, and fours. Then tap along and see how close you land to the beat.啟動擺錘節拍器、改變它的速度,數一數二拍、三拍、四拍裡的強拍與弱拍。再跟著敲,看你離拍子有多近。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →How Do You Tell a Musician “Louder” or “Faster”?
怎麼告訴演奏的人「大聲一點」「快一點」?Play one short melody with a loudness sign and a speed word, from pianissimo to fortissimo and from largo to presto, and watch the notes get brighter and thicker as the music gets louder.同一段短旋律,配上一個力度記號和一個速度詞,從 pianissimo 到 fortissimo、從 largo 到 presto,看音符隨著越來越大聲而變亮、變粗。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →Unit 2 · 單元二
Writing Music Down 把音樂寫下來
How a tune becomes marks on paper: the staff, note lengths, scales, and why some notes sound good together.
一段旋律怎麼變成紙上的記號:五線譜、音符的長短、音階,以及為什麼有些音放在一起很好聽。
How Do You Read Music?
五線譜怎麼看?Tap a line or a space on a five-line staff and hear the note, see its name, and see the same note light up on a keyboard. Then find out why a clef changes everything.在五線譜的一條線或一個間上點一下,聽到那個音、看到它的名字,也看到它在鍵盤上的位置。再看看為什麼譜號會改變一切。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →How Long Is a Note?
一個音要多長?Fill a bar with note blocks until it is exactly full, then see it on a staff and hear it. Find out why every note is half as long as the one before it.用音符積木把一小節剛好填滿,再看它寫在五線譜上、聽它播出來。看看為什麼每個音符都是前一個的一半長。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →What Is a Scale?
音階是什麼?Build major, minor, and pentatonic scales one key at a time, and hear the same tune in three different scales. Find out what a whole step and a half step are.一個鍵一個鍵建出大調、小調和五聲音階,聽同一段旋律換三種音階。看看什麼是全音和半音。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →Why Do Some Notes Sound Good Together?
為什麼有些音放在一起很好聽?Play two notes at once and see their waves line up. Hear the beats when two notes are almost the same, and build major and minor chords with three keys.讓兩個音同時響,看它們的波怎麼對齊。聽兩個幾乎相同的音發出的拍音,再用三個鍵組出大三和弦與小三和弦。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →Unit 3 · 單元三

弦、空氣、膜和板:四種會振動的東西,以及鋼琴、交響樂團和國樂器怎麼運用它們。
How Do Instruments Make Sound?
樂器怎麼發出聲音?Four stands, four families: a string, a column of air, a drumhead, and a bar. Click each one to hear it, watch what vibrates, and find out how each family goes higher.四個展示台,四個家族:弦、空氣柱、鼓膜和一根棒。一個一個點,聽聲音、看是什麼在振動,再找出每一家怎麼變高。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →What Happens Inside a Piano?
鋼琴裡面發生了什麼?Press one key in slow motion and watch the lever, the jack, the hammer, the damper, and the string. See why the hammer has to let go, and what the pedal does.用慢動作按下一個鍵,看槓桿、傳動桿、琴槌、制音器和弦。看看為什麼槌子一定要放手,以及踏板做了什麼。Start the lesson · 開始上課 →Who Sits Where in an Orchestra?
