The Body's Own Drive Back Toward Balance
Not every yin-yang imbalance is described as needing outside help. This lesson covers a principle about the body's own capacity to correct itself.
不是每一次陰陽失衡,都被描述成需要外力介入。這一課要講的是身體本身自我修正的能力。
Unit 102: The Body's Own Drive Back Toward Balance
This unit's lessons on yin-yang imbalance — excess heat versus deficient heat, yang deficiency versus yin excess, the doubling point where an extreme flips into its opposite — have mostly described situations where something has gone wrong. A separate principle, "yin and yang harmonize themselves," describes something the framework credits the body with doing on its own: after a disturbance, yin and yang are traditionally said to have their own tendency to drift back toward balance, without every single imbalance requiring active correction from outside.
This isn't a claim that no imbalance ever needs help — the many earlier lessons on specific imbalances make clear that plenty do. Rather, it describes a baseline capacity traditionally credited to a body that isn't severely depleted: a mild, temporary disturbance, such as a single night of poor sleep or a single day of overexertion, is expected to resolve largely on its own once the triggering circumstance passes, as yin and yang settle back into their usual relationship.
The principle matters because it sets an expectation for what actually needs intervention. Under this framework, a good question to ask before reaching for any active correction is whether the imbalance is one the body's own self-harmonizing capacity should reasonably be able to handle given a bit of rest and time, or whether it has gone on long enough, or deep enough, that the capacity itself is likely to be part of what's compromised. Yangsheng, covered in a later unit, is largely aimed at protecting this self-harmonizing capacity rather than replacing it.

This lesson explains a conceptual principle, not a diagnosis. Persistent or worsening symptoms should be evaluated by a licensed doctor rather than left to resolve on their own.
